Resume Assistant
Your resume identifies your accomplishments and skills, explains your employment history, knowledge and successes. It is the first thing an employer reads about you and is your chance to make a good first impression. A well written resume will move you closer to a job interview.
There is no perfect or right resume format. The format you choose will depend upon the job you hope to find and your degree of experience... remember, the purpose of a resume is to get you a job interview. It’s the interview that gets you the job.
Your resume needs the following:
- Personal Details - Name, address, phone number.
- Objective - An objective gives your resume a focus. It should be specific enough to tell the employer the kind of work you seek.
- Career History - List the most recent position first. Include job titles, employers and dates of employment. Follow this with a list of key responsibilities.
- Qualifications and Education - List the most recent qualification first. Include qualification name, institution and dates. This includes any short courses or work preparation programmes with CareerSystems.
- Interests - Relate your interests to the job selection criteria; for example, demonstrate you are a team player by sharing your involvement in team sports. Keep this brief and positive to a potential employer.
- Additional Information - Special skills, activities, awards, professional associations, committee memberships, public service activities, or even language ability.
- References - Include name, title, and business mailing address, phone number and email addresses of three (if possible) business references. Be sure to obtain permission from each referee beforehand. You can also use your CareerSystems Employment Consultant.
